Parents of Children with Chronic Illnesses

In HEHD 8050 - Youth Development in the Context of Family, our final project was a of our choosing. I wrote a paper outlining the hardships of being a parent of a child with a chronic illness. Working for the Arthritis Foundation, I've worked with a lot of parents, and heard their problems and worked with them to make sure they have all the resources I can offer them. The purpose of this review is to explore the added stress and anxiety parents experience while caring for a child with chronic illness. To do this I looked at literature that looks at theprevalence of coping interventions and the effects the illness has on the family and relationships therein. I found this really helped me in my programming for family camps. For example, one of the studies I read talked about the importance an prevelance of online communities and their ability to help parents cope. I created an online facebook page and forum for parents, and it has been very successful.
