DISC Assessment

In HEHD 8060 - Youth Development in the context of a Global and Diverse Society, our first assignment was to complete a DISC Assessment to discover our leadership style. DISC is a behavior assessment tool based on the DISC theory of psychologist William Moulton Marston, which centers on four different behavioral traits, which today are called: dominance, influence, steadiness, and compliance. According to the DISC Assessment, my leadership style is Influence, with the Persuader pattern. I am extremely optimistic, emotional, passionate, and persuasive. This optimism and passion also drives my need for learning and adaptation into new cultures. I work best with people and while I can convince them to see things my way, I can also be influenced under pressure. I thought this was a unique way to begin a class centered around diversity. It opened our eyes immediately to the idea that diversity not only covers race, religion and gender, but also our thoughts, beliefs, and actions in a work setting. I think this assignment helped me take a look at the type of leader I am, and what things I need to work on. I find these types of tests good for my own personal reflection and adds competencies to my managerial skills.
