Nature Deficit Disorder Analysis

In HEHD 8880 - Special Topics In Youth Development Leadership, we learned about Youth Development in the Context of Nature. The key theory we learned about is that children are currently suffereing from Nature Deficit Disorder; that children are not spending enough time outdoors and  it is impacting their development. While several theories focus specifically on the reconnection of youth to nature, the below article argues that emphasizing place attachment and value is the best way to connect children with their surroundings and increase their time and involvement in nature based activities. This class was fascinating for me because I was able to reflect on a topic I hadn't really thought of before. I appreciated being able to argue an opposite side to Nature Deficit Disorder and provide additional ideas for combating this issue facing kids today.
