In HEHD 8040 - Assessment and Evaluation of Youth Programs, we spent the semester creating an extensive evaluation plan. This project is the one I'm most proud of throughout my Master's experience. Classes have occassionally lined up to current issues we had been facing in my organization, and this one was no exception. At the time, we hadn't had a set of standards nationally utilized by Arthritis Foundation camping programs. I was asked to be a part of a small national subcommittee to review and create a set of national camp standards to be implemented in 2016. I was able to utilize this class to create an evaluation plan with three steps: 1. Survey the Regional Arthritis Foundation Staff to get a better understanding of how their camps are run and the training they need. 2. Create and utilize a camper/participant evaluation that will provide national data. 3. Implement observational visits that will utilize the Camp Program Quality Assessment Checklist through the American Camping Association. I am proud to say that we have actually completed Step One, and have designed the evaluation for Step Two. Once the national board approves of our changes, we will continue this evaluation and continual assessment process.
